Logging mileage for one or more vehicles
Log each business trip, and KidKeeper totals your miles per vehicle for the year. Your tax preparer applies the mileage rate. KidKeeper only records the miles.
Add a vehicle
- Go to Finances → Mileage.
- Click the ⋯ menu and choose Add Vehicle.
- Enter a nickname (optional), year, make and model, and the date you started using it for business. Save.
Log a trip
- Click Add Trip.
- Choose the Vehicle, then the Date.
- Enter the Miles and a short Purpose, like “Grocery run for snacks” or “Field trip to the zoo”.
- Save.
Log business miles only. Commuting and personal driving don’t count.
See your totals
Pick a Tax year at the top. Each vehicle card shows its miles for that year, and Total business miles adds them up. The Trips list shows every trip for the year. Use its vehicle filter to see one car.
Edit or delete a trip
Click the trip in the Trips list. Change it and save, or click Delete.
Sold a vehicle?
Open the vehicle and set its status to Archived. Its trips stay and still count in the years they happened, but you can’t add new trips to it. To see archived vehicles, use ⋯ → Show Archived. To bring one back, set its status to Active.
Yearly totals from before
If you used to enter one yearly total, it shows in the Trips list as Yearly total and still counts for that year.
